Raye Robinson - 'Prince Charming' Single Review

The Liberating track you need to hear this Spring/Summer

Raye Robinson is an LA-based artist bursting at the seams with all things indie-pop. Her latest track Prince Charming, released early March is full of upbeat, punchy sounds. Couple that with honest songwriting, it’s the perfect mix of catchy and relatable.

This single is bubbly and daring, all at once. The track reflects her sound as an artist, it’s clear she is confident in her craft and expresses this through playful lyricism, coupled with a sugary soundscape.

Raye shared that the inspiration for this track came to her after going on a string of first dates - “he seemed to think that he knew me better than I knew myself." This is where the theme of self-love and holding yourself in high regard comes into play; this track inspiring independence and comfort in being alone as a result.

Having previously performed as part of a band, Rayes time alone throughout the pandemic enabled her to find herself as an independent artist, as well as develop her unique style. This revealed her passion for taking creative control over her sound.

When listening to Rayes previous tracks, it’s fair to say this one hits different. It’s the perfect timing for a release like this; providing something uplifting, tongue in cheek and freeing is exactly the type of song needed to escape this crazy world. With Prince Charming being up there with one of Rayes best, we still witness consistency with her as an artist, this latest track is reminiscent of her previous tracks like Star Talk and Daisies.

The lyrics 'prince charming,' and 'fighting dragons on my own' encapsulates that fairy tale-esque dream that most grow up longing for, but not Raye. With her witty lyrics like “I’m not the princess babe, I’m the king” reinforces the feminist stance Raye holds as an artist.

Not only has Raye Robinson filled this track with witty, relatable lyrics, the production of this track is playful and seamless. The track shines with punchy beats and fitting trumpet sounds - adding to Rayes uniqueness but keeping it safely within the realms of indie-pop.

Prince Charming is the 4th single off Raye Robinsons upcoming EP titled Crushes & Love Songs, set to release in 2022.
