Birmingham four-piece The New Righteous Mood are set to release their debut EP ‘A Few Righteous Tunes’ April 3rd
The New Righteous Mood (TNRM) are known for their post-punk, indie sound; With the release of their debut EP well on the way, we already have an idea of what to expect thanks to the release of their AA-side release, Trail of Shade/Supermarket Birthday Cake earlier in the year. This previous single really laid the foundations for this band – demonstrating a confident sound and a great aesthetic. At first listen, this EP is interesting as it demonstrates a seemless balance of punk and indie sounds, making it their own.
The Debut EP A Few Righteous Tunes is everything you would expect from this band, with those strong post-punk themes present and keen throughout. The intro track is the all familiar, Trail of Shade, with a bittersweet sound. If you're a fan of TNRM then you will instantly recognise this track, and appreciate how much it speaks for them as a band. The next track is one we haven’t heard before; titled Set in Stone it's quite a refreshing song to hear form these guys – staying true to themselves with the 'angry' punk vibes. This second track is also on the indie rock side of things, with a tongue in cheek feel depicted by the lyrics “it’s not set in stone” the track feels upbeat and fun.
Next on the
list is Sleepwalker – really demonstrating their dynamics with this one.
Definitely one of my personal favourites from this Brummie four piece so far.
With a slow tempo, zingy bass lines and bold, longing vocals from both Tommy
Greaves and Huw Woodward, It’s definitely one of the more chilled songs on the
record. Making it even better, half way there is an awesome instrumental, which I believe sets this
bands sound as a whole.
And finally to finish off, Supermarket Birthday Cake the second familiar track on the record, expressing darker times with a clever analogy. The way The New Righteous Mood have complied this EP is clever, sandwiching two new tracks in two familiar tracks – keeping the fans engaged and on familiar ground, then throwing in these new, effortless tracks.
A Few Righteous Tunes is set to be release on all major platforms April 3rd, make sure you check it out!
