Comast Wish You Were Here - EP Review

Birmingham based artist and music producer Comast released his debut EP Wish You Were Here on August 2nd.

Full of dark techno and deep, heavy beats - released at a bittersweet time, this is a great record to accompany those remaining summer weeks.

Falling within the Dance, Techno genre this EP review is something slightly different to my usual music content here on The Writers Note, but it is well deserving to feature and a refreshing listen.

Compiled of just two songs, lets begin with the title track Wish You Were Here. This song kicks off with a dominating funk-like feel. The track demonstrates something which is done so brilliantly by Comast; the artist sticks to his unique sound but demonstrates his ability to develop and mix in different ways, enabling him to keep his identity but also play around with different variations, and it works.

Wish You Were Here is a fast-paced track, boasting those static, dark sounds. But here Comast loses that dominating eerie feel which is present with the track that follows - again, giving his audience that variation and keeping things fresh.

The second track titled Its Okay To Dream, is filled with those dark, eerie tones and includes intense vocals, which are weaved throughout. This track sends you into a whirl of suspense and excitement from the moment you hit play. With a lengthy duration of around 6 minutes, it hits that sweet spot, giving you enough time to absorb its entirety. Starting with a tense, upbeat sound, which then develops with a vocal input - this builds that suspense perfectly and creates a vibe which seems exclusive to Comast.

All of the unique elements this EP portrays gets you itching to get up and start moving. Comast is also great at developing that build, supplying the right beats and tempos to carefully place you into that drop - what I especially love about this EP is how 3D it feels, it truly encapsulates you.

What can be so difficult with techno and dance music in general, is ensuring that the tracks don’t lose their excitement. Allowing the right times for slowing it all down and ensuring there isn't too much repetition - this is something Comast has been successful at achieving with the release of Wish You Were Here. Keeping his tracks alive and straying away from the stagnant sounds.

Tense, eerie and full of desire and anticipation, this recent EP release is one for all the techno and dance lovers - demonstrating a great balance of sound and technical flavour.
