How Can You Help Ukraine?

With the ongoing conflict in Ukraine destroying the livelihoods of millions of people, I'm sure you can agree it evokes feelings of helplessness.

Here are 4 simple ways that you can help...

1. Donate

One of the most obvious ways to help is through donating money, clothes and other items to emergency appeals, which are dotted up and down the country.  The British Red Cross has created a crisis appeal, whose donations could help individuals and families get food, healthcare supplies and water.

So start spring cleaning! Declutter your wardrobe and donate your unwanted clothes. With many innocent people becoming homeless and desperately in need, donating your clothes, food and any other necessities to a local drop off point would make all the difference.

A volunteer community named The Bearded Broz in Smethwick, Birmingham is a local point for Birmingham/the West Midlands. See the full list here.

2. Homes For Ukraine

The government have announced that they will be using this scheme to allow individuals, community groups and businesses to house Ukrainian refugees. So, if you have the space, or if you live alone and wish to make a huge difference and support someone/families in need, head over to the Gov.uk website to nominate yourself.  Click this link to find out more information.

3. Raise Awareness #StandForUkraine

This one cost nothing. Social media is a powerful tool, get involved and simply raise awareness. Share different donation sites, even if you can’t afford to donate yourself you could be sharing it with someone who can. Using the hashtag #StandForUkraine is powerful within itself - show that you stand with the country and the people in need. There's power in people.

4. Support Ukrainian Musicians - #StandWithUkraine

On 4th March Bandcamp announced its return of 'Bandcamp Friday'. Stating that the streaming platform will cut its share of the revenue for 24 hours and that all proceeds would go directly to the artists. Music and Culture writer Jakub Knera and Ninja Tune, have shared the playlist “ByMusicClub” which is full of Bandcamp links, showcasing recent releases from talented Ukrainian artists.

This is a monthly occurrence so if you’re looking for some new music to add to your playlist, check this link out. As stated before, all proceeds will go to Ukrainian artists directly, helping support the people of Ukraine through music - the next Bandcamp Day takes place on April 1st
