Mindfulness and Wellbeing - My Instagram Recommendations

This weeks post is all about health and well-being - In light of Digital Detox Day 2020 with I Am Whole which took place earlier this month, I thought there’d be no better time to recommend my favourite accounts that positively promote self-love and taking care of your overall well-being. So, if we aren’t going to ditch social media completely, the least we can do is try to make it a more positive place.
I personally have such a love hate relationship with social
media, Instagram in particular. Seeing everyone’s ‘highlight reel’ on a day to
day basis can lead to unhealthy comparison and is something which I feel can be
very toxic if over consumed. This is why sometimes we need to take a step back
from it… or ‘detoxify’ the content we consume online.
If you've come over to this post feeling as though you need a feed refresh, my first tip would simply be to limit your time on social media; and the second would be to give your feed a detox. What I mean by this is unfollowing accounts which you find yourself negatively comparing, or even accounts which just simply serve you no purpose. Try to make a point of following more profiles which motivate and inspire you day to day.
Now don’t get me wrong! We’re all guilty and love to upload
a selfie every now and then; and of course, platforms like Instagram can be
super beneficial in many ways. It can even be a place to practise your
self-love and build your confidence. But I feel that following real
people, and motivational accounts can make such a huge difference to how your
time on social media impacts your mental health. Not only that, but some of the
accounts I recommend today are really aesthetically pleasing… which in my books makes
them all the more enjoyable.
Here are a handful of Instagram profiles which you can
follow to ‘detox your feed.’ These accounts aim to teach the importance of
looking after both your physical and mental health, as well as practising
self-love. It's refreshing to see such honest, grounded content on the platform once in
a while too.

Safe Place Inside Your Head (@asafeplaceinsideyourhead)
Next up is A Safe Place inside Your Head, this is another page which possesses such a lovely tone and overall environment for you as a follower; very similar to About the Good Life, which is why I like it so much. Using fairly factual posts, explaining things like panic attacks, and all about how to change your way of thinking - So if you’re an overthinker like myself then this is a great one to follow.

That completes my recommendations for detoxing your feed. I do understand that at a first glance these accounts can seem overwhelming to begin with, especially if you've looked at them all in one go… but trust me. When a post from one of these accounts pops up on your feed every now and then, it’s a nice little reminder to yourself.
So… don’t feel bad for unfollowing an account if you feel they bring you unhealthy comparisons, do not serve you purpose, or impact you in a positive way. As I’ve demonstrated here, there are some great accounts out there. Remember you are in control of what you consume, and as a result how that impacts you.
