4 Songs to Add to Your Quarantine Playlist

With all this Covid-19 talk, it’s nice to have a break from it all. That is why I am recommending 4 tracks to add to your 'quarantine playlist' and to help take your mind off things for a minute or two.

In light of the crazy times we seem to be living in right now, we all need to make sure we are making time to just chill out... Music has always been a way for people to relax, and be entertained. At this time especially, it is needed more than ever, even more so for music lovers like myself. So! This week I will be recommending 4 artists to check out if you're looking for some fresh, new music. Most tracks are upbeat but pretty chilled, as I think that's what we all need right now - all of the songs mentioned I have personally been loving at the moment.

Also, in light of International Women’s day, despite being a little late (it's still basically month of the woman right?) all of these artists are female and are really killing it at the moment, so please go and show some support to these lovely ladies. On that note, helping out any local bands/artists/venues you can right now is so important. All small businesses/artists and creatives especially, need as much love and support as they can get at the moment.

1. Flty Brgr Grl - Be My Boy

First on the list are Flty Brgr Grl (Filthy Burger Girl), having followed this duo for a while now and loving their stuff, I had to include them. Their debut single ‘Be My Boy’ is a beautiful blend of infectious lo-fi, indie-pop. These Norwegian ladies have managed to create an insanely catchy song, upbeat and chill all at the same time. With a strong bass line, smooth harmonies and a steady beat it’s a dreamy kind of track – get it added to your list!

2. ABISHA - Scorpio

Second up we have ABISHA with the title track Scorpio from her debut EP. Released last month the EP as a whole is full of smooth, alt-pop, R&B tracks – perfect for creating a chill vibe while you’re working from home. Scorpio is a ‘self-confession’ track, reflective and very raw. Could maybe influence some of us to take this 'down time' to do the same. Let’s make light of a negative situation!

3. Mae Muller - Therapsit

The next track is Therapist from London based artist Mae Muller, this track is predominantly pop but with another R&B vibe. Mae Muller is one to look out for this year, her music is so wholesome and warming, and with an impressive aesthetic her whole vibe just encapsulates you. The relatable lyrics; coupled with a Lily Allen kind of attitude, Mae is a refreshing, candid pop star - the best kind. Therapist is about a guy who needs help, and not from a girlfriend – the tongue in cheek lyrics make it an amusing listen. Not to mention the vocal range on this girl; the first time I stumbled upon Muller was by catching one of her acoustic sessions on Instagram, and I was hooked! If you’re looking for a feel good, independent woman vibe, coupled with some cool, pop/R&B sounds then check Mae Muller out.

4. YNES - All I Do

Last but not least is YNES’ with All I Do – this track holds again, such relatable lyrics and has a loud pop theme throughout. All I Do is an upbeat, rebellious track suitably fitting to YNES’ riot grrrl look. Again, another artist with a pretty cool aesthetic. YNES (real name Kira) is an advocate for the DIY music scene and is on the map to represent the independent, female artists out there like herself. Which is something we all need to contribute to in regards to supporting independent businesses and talent, especially at this time.  All I Do is a song which follows YNES questioning seemingly common occurrences; coupled with a Kate Nash kind of feel, it also has the capacity to make you chuckle with those tounge in cheek lyrics. All goes hand in hand with the upbeat sounds, it's definitely one to get added to your list.

So, there's some chill, upbeat and thought-provoking tracks to get you through this confusing time we are all facing. As well as this, there has been mention of some pretty strong minded and inspirational female artists, all massively inspiring and beaming with talent - refreshing to hear during these times.

Stay safe, healthy and productive!
