Giant and the Georges 'Butterflies' - Review

Giant and the Georges are back with their latest track Butterflies released September 27th.

After reviewing this bands previous single Blind Love back in June and loving their stuff, the word of a new track on the horizon got me itching for some fresh material from these guys.
It's safe to say that this predominantly alt-rock band have stayed true to themselves with this latest release. Known for their distinct, peculiar sound and the effortless harmonies they weave into their songs, Butterflies gives us just that. Despite the use of these traditional sounds that we all know and love from Giant and the Georges, Butterflies manages to have a different kind of sound all together.

At first listen I was pleasantly surprised at the way the track is carried by a strong acoustic sound, rather than the dominating electric sounds that are present in their previous releases. The great thing about this is that it's done whilst incorporating hints of the bands original, expected sound; Those zingy bass lines, strong drum beats and of course that annoyingly catchy melody and chorus - a classic from this four piece. All these elements make this latest single a true reflection of how talented and flexible they are as a band. In comparison to the previous single Blind Love, which creates a very eerie, almost psychedelic atmosphere and seems to have been dragged from the archives of the 90s, Butterflies is on the contrary to that. It is a very chilled, bittersweet track. Listen below:

Butterflies is an easy going song all about the ups and downs of falling in love - the somber, smooth vocals from the lead Sam George are effortlessly complimented by the harmonies throughout. This single is truly beautiful, well-written and well-produced.
With Butterflies demonstrating the eclectic sound the band obtain, it makes you question how far can this Black Country based band push their boundaries? As anything they seem to release sounds even quirkier and all the more exciting.
