Billie Eillish - Bury A Friend Review

Billie Eilish, if you don't know her, where have you been?! She is taking the industry by storm at the ripe age of just Seventeen. She really blew up late last year, with her single 'When The Party's Over.' Since that release, people have been intrigued by Billies unique sound and bold persona. Not only this, but also her impressive vocals and the sense of emotional matureness in her music.

I mean... what can we really say about Billie Eilish at the moment, other than the fact she has really got her feet under the table in the industry, she's killin' it! With her previous single charting to number one, her latest track has followed up and done just that. 'Bury A Friend' has quickly made its way straight to the top.

Bury A Friend has the classic 'Billie feel,' similar to the creepy and disturbing act of her swallowing a spider in her video crown, this song has the same vibe to it. The first beat coupled with the deep voice of rapper Crooks, a loud and bold "Billie," it sets that eerie tone from the very beginning. This song is supposedly reflective of suffering from sleep paralysis and being in a confused state, which can be frightening. This would make the idea behind the video make some kind of sense. The track is also meant to be about a monster under your bed, repeating the questions; "what do you want from me?" and "when we all fall asleep,  where do we go?" which is the title of her debut album.

This song in a sense is quite minimalistic, in the fact that it is quite repetitive and holds the same kind of tune throughout, but it's clever. Young Billie and her Brother really know how to write some good music. It has an eerie tone to it throughout, with layered, almost morbid toned vocals. The lyric 'I wanna end me' could be giving us a peak into Billies mental state. It's definitely no secret that she is not one to hold back when it comes to expressing her raw emotions through music and powerful lyrics.

The video for 'Bury A Friend' of course fits with her horror filled concept. This video linking to 'When The Party's Over' where billie has black ink is streaming out of her eyes. (This idea was sparked from a drawing given to Billie by a fan.) This theme has been carried through to her latest music video. With black inked eyes and horror aesthetics. At one point, syringes are stabbed in her back and gloved hands grab billies face pulling her in all directions, could this be reflective of her feeling like she is being forced in all kinds of directions? Billie is only 17 and must be facing a huge amount of pressure at her age, especially being involved in the music industry.

Billie is really letting her talent shine through with these recent releases, I know that I can't stop listening to her. I find her sound and her ideas really intriguing. The raw emotion she puts into her songs really grabs people, simply because its real. With this latest single, I really think it is a statement song. She has gone against the rules with this one. Even compared to her previous single which was some form of ballad, you may have expected something along the same lines from Billie, but this is just something different. Like I said it works and it really fuels Billies 'idgaf' persona. I personally can't wait for her debut album to see what boundaries she pushes next. Billie is definitely one to watch for 2019 peeps.
